Measurement & Progress:

Measuring Our Recycling at Fairfield Elementary

Fifth grade students at FES lead the school in our ongoing paper recycling program. This school year, 2024-25, fifth-grade students continued to implement and improve our ongoing paper recycling program by teaching students in the lower grade levels how to recycle paper, measure the weight of the recycling by class, and create graphs to track our recycling progress.

Ongoing pictographs, bar graphs, or line graphs in classrooms that track weekly measurements are posted in classrooms and linked directly to our math instruction.

Additionally, fifth-grade students compared weekly graphs and calculated range, mean, median, and mode using real-life data.

Kind Words

“One of the students involved in the recycling program each week, made a point to never miss school on recycling days. He worked hard to make sure all of his work was caught up and complete so that he wouldn’t have to miss his chance to be involved.”
