Launching Central Fourth Graders into Space!

On Tuesday, February 20th, the Science Museum of Western Virginia came to Central Elementary. The educator from the museum spent one hour with each fourth grade class at Central. She engaged the students in an overview of the solar system. She shared information, drawings, and photographs, when possible, of each planet in our solar system. The educator demonstrated the struggles with exploring other planets, especially the robotic control needed to move vehicles around on other planets. The demonstration included student involvement which they enjoyed. While one student was blindfolded, another student had to give specific directions to move an object. The visit from the museum opened the minds of our Central students to the topic of the solar system and exposed them to interactive exhibits.

Kind Words

“The grant from RCPSF covered the expense of the Science Museum of Western Virginia to come visit each fourth grade classroom at Central Elementary. As it turned out, that part of this entire process was the easiest! This visit inspired all the fourth grade teachers and students to rocket ourselves past any previous projects to create our own interactive Space Museum.”
